What are the requirements to run?
- 2010 Program Qualifications:
In order to qualify as a candidate for the 2010 Northern California Cherry Blossom Queen Program, one must:
be
a female of at least 18 years of age and not more than 25 years of age as of the Program night (April 10, 2010).
be single and not have been previously married and not have any children
be of
at least 50% Japanese ancestry
be
a United States citizen and have lived in the Northern
California area for at least one year; or a foreign national
with permanent residence status of at least one year and
have lived in Northern California area for at least three years; or a foreign national residing in Northern California for at least
three years.
have
graduated from high school or will graduate by June 2010.
have been or is currently an active participant/volunteer in a community organization
submit one or more personal reference(s) attesting to the aforementioned community involvement
agree to participate in the talent component
submit an essay of no more than 500 words TYPED in English or in Japanese explaining why you desire to represent the Japanese American
community as Cherry Blossom Queen. The essay submitted in Japanese must be accompanied by English translation. The
essay will be considered in the final judging should you be selected to run for Cherry Blossom Queen.
have at your disposal, to wear for judging, an evening gown
forward a completed application so that it is received by the Queen Committee by the due date printed on the application
be
available for a preliminary interview for the 2010 Northern California Cherry Blossom Queen candidate selection process. The
preliminary interview is not considered in the final judging should you be selected to run for Cherry Blossom Queen.
What does being a Cherry Blossom Queen entail?
- As a Cherry Blossom Queen, you will be representing our community at many events and during trips to other cities.
